Summary:

The investigation is an evaluation step for the simulation methods developed by the research group and consists of two parts. One focuses on the pressure in the aft end of a planing prismatic hull, the other on the impact pressure at the leading edge of the planing surface.

The overall goal for the detailed investigation of the near-transom pressure is to improve this local force model. The major part of the analysis addresses time-domain evaluation. From the wave measurement signal a wave model is determined by a method developed by the research group that enables a numerical model to experience the same sea conditions as the physical model and response time-series can be compared. In order to perform this, the wave height has to be measured at a point close to the model, following the model. Although the objectives focus on evaluation and verification of modeling techniques an important and more general result worth highlighting is the determination of the planning pressure that is made possible by the dense pressure transducer matrices. With the variation of load cases, model speeds and wave conditions the pressure measurement data consists a unique reference material.
